The Synagogue

The Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue combines Jewish history and ritual with the Curaçao cultural antiquity and landmarks. It was dedicated in 1732, which makes it the oldest synagogue in constant use in the Western Hemisphere. Its unique architecture, antique mahogany furnishings with exquisite chandeliers, gleaming silver and copper trim and emblematic sand floor all contribute to making the Synagogue an important historical monument of the island.
A Jewish Cultural Museum was opened next to the Synagogue in 1970. This is an interesting museum where many remarkable objects from the history of Jewish culture are exhibited.
