See route
The construction of Fort Amsterdam began in 1635 which makes it one of the most ancient buildings on the island and the oldest fort built by the West India Company (WIC). The fort used to serve as the local headquarters of the WIC. Additionally, the building also served as a defensive structure.
Both the Governor's palace, the former Secretary General and the Fort Church can be found inside the Fort. The fort church was built in 1769. Currently, the historical church serves as a museum. You will be informed about the history and construction of the church in the museum. There are many interesting items on display that help clarify the history of the island. There is even war damage left in the wall of the church.
