Riffort is located at the entrance to Sint Anna Bay across from Fort Amsterdam. It was built between 1826 and 1828 because orders were given to improve Curaçao's defenses. The fort was supposed to prevent pirates and other unnecessary guests from entering by its 1.5-meter coral walls and 56 cannons. As of 2002, it serves as a shopping center called Renaissance Mall. It is a unique open-air mall with more than 50 stores and catering establishments.
